BAR MANAGER

We are looking for a passionate, driven and experienced bar manager to join our team!

About us:
Boundary Island Brewery is situated on the waterfront at the Mandurah Quays Marina overlooking the stunning Peel Estuary. 

With a relaxed and fun culture, Boundary Island Brewery is a ‘must visit’ destination when in Mandurah and includes an onsite brewhouse, sky deck with private bar, stunning indoor and outdoor fireplace, brand new Texan smoker, woodfired pizza oven, balcony for long lunches, relaxed undercover alfresco area and more.  

Since opening in January 2022, the Brewery has exceeded all expectations and in response to this growth, we are now looking to expand our operations and require a leader who can use their creativity, passion and drive to not only lead our front of house team but work with the executive to continue the growth and success of the brewery.

The successful applicant needs to be flexible to work a range of shifts including evenings, weekends and public holidays with a minimum of 40 hours per week.

Key Focus of this Position:
The front of house team is the heart and soul of our venue and vital in ensuring our customers receive a positive experience every time.  The Bar Manager's focus will be to guide and train this team of up to 50 members to achieve this goal.  With staff management and customer service a key focus, the position will also be responsible for ensuring KPIs are met and that the department is operating at maximum efficiency whilst minimising overheads.  The position will work closely with the Front of House Venue Manager and General Manager to help the brewery grow and develop in a positive direction and create policies and procedures in line with this.

Department/Business Unit: Kitchen, Brewhouse, Administration
Collaborative Departments: FOH - Restaurant

Competencies Required for this Position:

Leadership – Exceptional leadership skills with the ability to train and mentor a team. Use motivational techniques to keep staff on task and maintain a positive attitude to maximise outcomes
Effective Communication - Highly developed and proven communication (verbal & written) and interpersonal skills.
Organisation Skills – to ensure the smooth running of the bar in conjunction with the floor, kitchen and brewhouse. This includes stock level management, maintaining hygiene and cleaning schedules, presentation, stock rotations etc
Customer Service – Has excellent guest interaction. Ensuring exceptional customer experiences by fostering a welcoming and professional atmosphere. Excellent conflict resolution skills
Initiative & Creativity – Is responsible for identifying areas that require improvements to increase productivity along with generating attention-grabbing ideas that will entice the consumer. Has the ability to think outside of the box & translate ideas through internal processes and procedures & staff training.
Staff Development – Encouraging and supporting the professional growth and development of the bar staff.
Multitasking – must be able to multitask and remain calm and calculated when attending to multiple tasks at one time.
Basic Administration – Able to write and send emails, answer the phone, the use of windows office works applications. procedures

Duties:

Staff Training – Hands on training of both new and existing staff in all areas of their role from pouring beers to till operations. This includes attending fortnightly supervisor meetings and communicating outcomes to all staff and setting performance expectations.
Staff Management – Work closely with bar staff to identify any areas that require attention and to ensure they are happy and working in a positive and motivated way. Ensure lines of communication are open and boundaries are set. Nurture growth and development and attend to any issues or disciplinary matters with haste to maximise positive outcomes.
Rostering – Assist the FOH Manager in constructing rosters. Analyse and adjust daily staffing levels on a continual basis to be in line with projected needs
Stock Ordering & Control – Oversee the ordering of all stock for the bar as well as monitor stock levels to ensure minimal wastage and stock rotation. Liaise with suppliers to ensure the lowest price and best product is being ordered. Ensure stock is unpacked in a timely and orderly manner
OHS – apply OHS principles at all times and ensure staff are operating in a manner that complies with guidelines.
Budgets & Reporting –Work within budget guidelines and monitor costs and report outcomes to the executive.
Open/Close – Oversee the opening and closing checklists to ensure the venue is ready for operations at the start of the day and all duties are completed at the end of the night.
RSA – Operate the venue inline with all RSA guidelines and ensure staff are fully competent and compliant at all times
Point of Sale – work with administration to ensure the POS system is up to date and efficient. Manage daily specials and updates in these systems. This includes both the POS system (Impos) and online ordering system (Mr Yum)
Bar Operations – ensure the bar is managed and operates in the most efficient and smooth way possible, ensuring maximum output and service at all times.
Venue Presentation – ensure the venue is presented in a friendly and welcoming manner to ensure a positive and welcoming vibe. This includes music selection/volume, temperature control, television settings, signage, furniture layout, indoor/outdoor fire, shade etc
Conflict Resolution – Oversee any grievances that may occur and ensure staff are empowered to handle situations in a calm manner that diffuses situations and results in positive outcomes.
Policies & Procedures – in conjunction with Management, create and implement as well as refine current policies to ensure the venue is managed in the most efficient manner possible
Drinks – Maintain drinks recipes and menus including cocktails. Ensure cocktail list and drinks selection is up to date and moving with trends
Events – In conjunction with the management team, contribute to the planning and running of special events and functions.
Administration – Assist in areas of administration that relate to the Management of the bar including creating content flyers & advertising material/signage, internal communication memo's, sending emails, updating lists and procedures, competent in Microsoft office suite including but not limited to Word & Excel.
Customer Service – oversee the levels of customer service to ensure the absolute highest standard is met at all times.
Meetings – attend scheduled staff meetings including supervisors' meetings and department managers' meetings.
Maintenance – Manage any maintenance issues by either reporting to the General Manager or manage within given guidelines
FOH Supervisor – Undertake supervisor shifts as rostered

FRONT OF HOUSE BAR & FLOOR STAFF

About the role:

As a FOH Customer service member of the Boundary Island Brewery, you will play a crucial role in ensuring smooth operation of our establishment. Reporting to the Front of House Manager or shift supervisor, you will be responsible for providing exceptional customer service while maintaining compliance with RSA and upholding workplace standards

Floor Duties:

Main Duties:

  • Greet all customers upon arrival and direct them to their tables if booked, providing exceptional customer service with a calm, friendly, and attentive demeanour.
  • Demonstrate extensive knowledge of all products
  • Interchange between floor and bar duties as required, including clearing and wiping tables, checking on meals, and maintaining cleanliness standards.
  • Work effectively in a noisy, high-pressure environment, multitasking and remaining organised during busy periods.
  • Perform other incidental and peripheral duties as requested by the employer or management team.

Bar Duties:

Main Duties:

  • Ensure compliance with RSA regulations at all times, including checking IDs for patrons who appear under the age of 25.
  • Demonstrate extensive knowledge of all products, including current beers, alcohol content, and percentages, and remain updated on menu changes through provided training.
  • Process orders and payments efficiently using a till or handheld device, demonstrating active listening skills, memory for different customer orders, and the ability to upsell.
  • Keep the bar area clean and tidy, restocking and replenishing supplies as needed, including the takeaway fridge, and ensuring the glass area remains clean and organized.
  • Work effectively in a noisy, high-pressure environment, multitasking and remaining
    organized during busy periods.
  • Perform other incidental and peripheral duties as requested by the employer or management team.  

Qualifications and Skills Required:

  • Previous experience in hospitality or customer service roles preferred however training can be provided for the right applicant
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to provide exceptional customer service in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to maintain cleanliness and organization in the bar and floor areas.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment and take direction from supervisors.
  • Basic math skills and the ability to process orders and payments accurately and efficiently.
  • Adaptability and flexibility to meet changing business needs and work schedules.
  • Physical stamina to stand and walk for extended periods and lift moderate weights.
  • Positive attitude, professionalism, and a willingness to go above and beyond to ensure guest satisfaction.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Must be over the age of 18 to work behind the bar area.
  • Valid RSA (Responsible Service of Alcohol) certification.
  • Current Food Safety Training Certificate.
  • Nights & Weekend availability is a MUST
